I'VE ALWAYS BEEN A BIT OF A SCIENCE GEEK THANKS TO MY PARENTS REVERE  FOR 'EDUCATIONAL TOYS' & THIS WAS ONE OF MY FAVOURITES.   A POPULAR TOY DURING THE GREAT DEPRESSION , THESE CRYSTALLIZED TREES MAKE A CHARMING, SIMPLE GIFT DESIGNED FOR EXTENDED ENJOYMENT...

"Back in the day the grandfather of this kit was known as a "Depression Garden". Chunks of coal were kept in a planter with some water. When salt was dumped on the coal, crystals formed. With a little imagination and some artificial coloring (laundry bluing for blue "flowers," mercurochrome for pink "flowers"), you could grow a beautiful crystal garden. This kit contains a 2" miniature, completely artificial paper tree that buds in 15 minutes. Assemble tree, mix crystal solution with water, dip tree in liquid and watch it grow."
